Description

A series of predefined basic three-dimensional bodies and their image-based representation using various selected approaches based on visual language.

In the first part of the course, various examples of visual language from the fields of painting, graphics, film and photography were presented, and their respective visual-language-based approaches and compositional features were noted. The aim was to transfer the gained insights to the representation of architecture by means of model making, photography and digital image processing. The students were asked to select a fictitious body, predefined by contours, and to coherently place it in an image using various visual-language-based approaches. The decisive criteria for the visual implementation were the adherence to consistent perspective and lighting design, the stringent handling of outlines and surface texture, the consistent selection of contrast ratios and colour temperature, the graininess, and the harmonious articulation of focus and blur. The aim was to explore the potential of model making, photography and digital image-processing methods, as well as to teach the students unconventional and atmospheric visual strategies and aesthetics for the representation of architecture.
