Offshoots. 2017
The ongoing digital capture and representation of our environment is creating an ever-increasing quantity of individual information blocks and image components, which have become freely accessible and processable. In the past, sketches, collages, paintings and sculptures were primarily created with the aid of analogue design materials, whereas today we deal with a much larger pool of material-independent resource elements that can be isolated, distorted, textured and rearranged at will, by means of digital image processing. What visual strategies can be derived as a result? And what image-based constructs can thus be developed?
That is the context of this work. It is experimental visual work that operates with found 3D components and image textures. All image components were freely arranged in a 3D scene by means of a computer and translated into a picture via rendering. Exploration between surface, body and image space upon incorporation of computer-generated imagery (CGI) is central to this work.
A total of 12 printed works (inkjet prints, 920x670 mm) were exhibited at the AFF Space gallery in Bern from December 2017 to February 2018.
